Evening
When the earth is stretched long
By the sun and the shadow
When the thoughts of the world
Come easy and slow
When the voices of those
who are gone become peaceful
On the wind of the evening
In the light that is leaving
When the mind comes to rest
from the parlors of reason
When the spirit wheels wide
With the birds in the heavens
When stillness is speaking
For those who will listen
Then is God near
In the breath and the breathing
And the mortal immortal
Unchained and set free.
